I’ve been using Quantcast since last year and all I can say is it has the potential to give Alexa a run for its money. That is because Quantcast doesn’t rely on a silly toolbar for its ratings but instead analyzes data from advertisers, publishers, ISPs and advertising networks, which I think is the most sensible solution. Besides giving your site a rank, it studies your audience, gives their age, ethnicity, income and education. Where else can you find out that your site attracts a younger, primarily male, Asian, college educated crowd?
Here are some analyses of popular Philippine sites:
Yugatech: Popular among a primarily male, more educated, more youthful crowd.
Inquirer.net: Attracts a largely male, mostly Asian, primarily older, highly educated, more affluent audience.
Pinoyexchange: Appeals to a younger, Asian, almost exclusively female crowd. (Whoa, is that true?)
Friendster: Attracts a more educated, mostly Asian, somewhat male, youthful audience. (I wonder what “somewhat male” means)
Philboxing.com: Appeals to a largely male, younger, HH income up to $60k, mostly Asian audience.
Tsinoy.com: Caters to a younger, very slightly male biased, mostly Asian audience.
Level Up Games: Caters to a mostly Asian, more male, younger group.
Seem accurate, huh?
Once you are thoroughly quantified (by inserting a piece of code), Quantcast will have a better understanding of your traffic, which you can later on use to your advantage (advertising, seo, future plans of world domination). Quantcast is still fairly new in the game and has a lot to work on. I would love to see more features such as the ability to view monthly reports as well as day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to-month, site-to-site comparisons. If they offer this in a pay package, I would gladly shell out for that.

Drew, based on your experience, should I install the quantcast code in just the index.php template, or should I also put it in the single.php and page.php templates as well?
Install it in your footer.php file and you’re good to go.
Thanks for the kind words… if anyone has questions, feel free to write me — (I work at Quantcast). We build this service for publishers, so we love feedback from publishers.
My best,

Wow, this sounds really interesting – just signed up. I can’t wait to see how my site visitor profile shapes up. I’m kinda curious on how they could make those sort of analysis based on the IPs they get. I mean, how can they figure out ethnicity? I’m a bit lost in that regard.
